More mammals

The ride this morning was just about like usual. The weather was nice, warm but not too warm, and I managed 35 miles.

I can tell that season has arrived again down here in south-west Florida. Every intersection with a stop sign seemed to have a car arriving at it just as I arrived. During the off season you can pretty much cruise that stretch without even flinching, but today it was on-off the whole length of Gulfshore Blvd. Also, there were a lot more pedestrians and runners out that had to be avoided in addition to the cars. Sometimes I wonder what people think they are doing when they just stroll right out into traffic without looking.

I did have one nice surprise however. As I was crossing one of the bridges down in Naples I thought I spied something in the water so I pulled over to look, and sure enough there was a pair of dolphins swimming and cavorting there. They seemed to be enjoying the current that was created there as the inlet narrowed a bit at the bridge. I paused for a few minutes to watch as they surfaced just underneath me a few times.

Horses yesterday, dolphins today. Not a bad weekend for mammal spotting.
