I made myself sit down and do my taxes today. It’s a miserable experience, but at least I’m getting a return this year. In recent years I’ve kept my withholding so low that I ended up owing money. It was a decision I made for assorted reasons, but it was always painful at this time of year to start asking, “So, how much do I owe this time?” This past year I had enough taken out that I’ll get a small sum back. When I say small, I mean small, but small is better than nothing.

Also, there is the rebate to look forward to later this year. I understand the government is spending about $42 million to send letters to everybody who filed last year letting them know they should get a rebate.

At least now I can spend the rest of the weekend without that nagging voice in the back of my brain reminding me I needed to do my filing.
