How the mighty are fallen, a chess tragedy

So this is what can happen when you think you’ve got things figured out. Call it a wake-up call. I was playing black, my Dad played white. This was the first game we’d played together in a couple of years. Things didn’t go as expected…

Use the control below to step through the moves and you can see some of my comments about various moves as you go. There aren’t very many. It was a short game.

1. e4 Nc6 {So here is where things immediatly start to go wrong I begin by
playing my Queen side Knight to c6, but I really wanted to play my King side
Knight to f6. It's like I spaced out and thought I was playing white.} 2. Nc3
b6 {But I continue thinking I'm white.} 3. g4 Bb7 4. g5 e5 {It's about here
that I realized what I was doing and started to adjust.} 5. Qh5 g6 6. Qh4 f5
7. exf5 gxf5 8. Nd5 Nd4 {By this point I'm just thinking about trying to get
redeveloped in the middle and I'm completely oblivious about what happens
next. I'm just on a different page altogether.} 9. Qh5# 1-0
