Moderately sore butt

I just got back from a lovely Sunday morning ride. The weather was beautiful, temperature in the mid to high 50’s and warming, sun shining, a bit of wind that seemed to be coming from the West but thankfully my route didn’t have too many miles riding directly into it. All in all it was nice to be out, and I think I’ve missed it.

In total I only rode 26.8 miles, and the average speed was only about 15 mph, but that’s a good starting place. I really need to start commuting by bike again during the week some, and that will add a whole other upside to my fitness level very quickly. The main area where I can really tell I’ve lost it is on the hills. It doesn’t matter how much momentum I’ve got going when I hit it, I lose it fast, and I don’t have enough extra kick yet to keep the gear high and power up it, instead I downshift and just crawl up the hill. It’s on the hills that I lose the biggest portion of my average speed. So if I can build up my climbing ability again the speed should come with it.

Anyway, when I arrived home Marcella already had coffee and muffins made, so now I’m sitting back and relaxing, and enjoying the post-ride buzz with coffee and muffins.
