May 29th bike ride

I was out for about 29.5 miles this morning on the bike. It was fairly pleasant, although sort of grey out. In fact I think there was the faintest mist in the air at one point, although I was never really concerned about rain. I think the temperature was right around 70 degrees when I began, and obviously warmed up as I rode.

I did fewer miles than last weekend, which I believe I never posted about—Oh well, but I tried to keep the pace high, and hit the hills hard. In other words, I made it a hard ride, for me. Average was 16.2 mph, which is definitely better than some of my other recent rides. I really need to work on the speed, I just don’t have very much right now.

I did see a flash of a deer while I was out…tail disappearing into the trees. Lots of cows were out and near the fences, stopping their grazing to stare at me as I passed. Not much other wildlife however aside from the seemingly ever present geese. Traffic was light, which is one of the main reasons I like riding on Sunday mornings early.

May 15th bike ride

I’m back from my Sunday morning ride. I somehow managed to get up and away at just a little after 7:30 this morning, despite a crappy night’s sleep. The neighbors were having a get together of some sort and they were a bit loud. I expect a nap will be in order later today.

It was a beautiful morning. Slightly chilly, but warming, with lovely golden sunlight and all the roadside wildflowers had dew on them that glinted nicely in the sun’s rays. I wish sometimes that I could ride and take photographs at the same time, but it just doesn’t work very well.

Not sure about my total mileage. I think around 35 miles or so. I stopped at a convenience store sometime around 15 miles, and accidentally stopped my computer. I didn’t realize until a few miles later. I hate it when that happens. Anyway, mid 30’s and around 15.5 mph average. Not great speed, but I’m not going to complain. It was just nice to get up and out on a pretty morning.

I need to put a new chain on the bike and get the cables and derailleurs tuned up a little. The shifting was a bit rough in spots. I could do it myself, but I’ve been thinking about going to the shop anyway so I might as well have them take care of it.

Not much wildlife spotted today other than squirrels and birds and a few butterflies.

Have a nice day!
