Day one-two-three

Like before, don’t expect to find many posts here about work. Just because I’ve changed jobs doesn’t mean I’ve changed that policy, but for right now from the standpoint of people perhaps wondering how things are going for me starting out in a new job, I can say that things are going pretty well. My new co-workers all seem very friendly and easy going. The environment is comfortable. I’ve got a lot to learn, but I feel that everything is within reach and that I will definitely be able to bring something useful to the table. So, I’m good, and the job is good. Expect subsequent posts to return to the more random non-work topics you all know and love.

Outside of work, things are very good, and also busy—primarily due to the holidays. Marcella and I have got a little tree setup, and we’ve put up a few small strings of lights. The kitties are all in pretty good shape, in fact there are three of them on the couch with me right now, and I can see the fourth on the stairwell…four kitties, whew!

Okay, move along now, nothing else to see here. But stay tuned; I do hope to be able to get up some more movie and book reviews and other more random comments and imaginings in the near future.

I brought the rain

In case anybody was wondering, I did make it to Greensboro. I took me about 13.5 hours. All in all the drive went pretty smoothly. I think I lost a little time in Georgia where there was a long stretch with construction and overall traffic speeds were a little slower.

Things I saw while driving:

1. A couple standing in the ditch on the side of the road. I couldn’t tell if they were arguing or just talking, but it just struck me as slightly strange.
2. A man entering the interstate on an onramp who was eating a soft-serve ice cream cone. It was vanilla.
3. A field on fire in South Carolina. It appeared to be a controlled burn.
4. A man praying before eating his McDonald’s food. I guess I just found prayer and McDonald’s to be an incongruity.
5. A woman driving while resting her left foot out of the window. I see passengers doing this sort of thing, but I thought it was strange to see the driver with a foot out of the car. Clearly she was driving an automatic.

NC has been in drought conditions for months, but it has rained most all of today. Not heavy rain, but a kind of steady drizzle. I’ m sure it doesn’t really solve the water problems, but I’ll take credit for bringing the rain. I would like to apologize now to the populace of North Carolina for not moving back earlier and leaving you dry for so long.

Marcella and the kitties seem to be glad to have me here. Actually, I’ve got my eye on one or two of the cats. Dorian might just be playing nice for the moment while he plans some sort of sneak attack!

Yesterday I took some of my new employee paperwork over to the job and turned it in. Hopefully Monday at the new job will go smoothly. I’m both anxious and excited about starting.

That’s it for now, but I’ll try to keep things updated as much as possible for anybody who happens to be checking.

Six Toed Cats

Vacation 07

He introduced us to a number of the famous cats who live there, including a number of the six toed ones. Marcella even got to feed a treat to one of the six toed cats, but I don’t remember which one. I think it might have been Susan Hayward. And she was able to pet one or two of the others.

We also got to look into the study where Hemingway actually worked. We marveled at his regular work schedule; the consistency and determination with which he approached writing.
