wet and drizzly

March 14th, 2009 Brian View Comments

It’s a grey and drizzly day outside today, which will likely mean much time spent indoors. Maybe I’ll do a little work on the bike, nothing particular, really just clean-up and general maintenance. I finally got myself a bike repair stand the other day so there’s no excuse. I can put the bike up and do whatever I need to do, and I already have the majority of tools I need. There are only a few more that I can pick up as I need them.

We’ll probably get out for a little bit to do an errand or two, but I don’t think we have all that much on the agenda today—reading, tv news, maybe a little house-cleaning, too much time on the internet. I’ve basically already accomplished that last item for the day!

Marcella and I saw Watchmen yesterday so maybe I’ll get around to posting my thoughts about it too.

Stay dry everyone.

Beautiful post time-change evening

Got home from work and did a quick workout—some crunches and curls and whatnot—gotta get the buddha slimmed down, and start getting into cycling shape again. I can’t believe how far I’ve backslid.

Anyway, when Marcella got home I suggested a neighborhood walk—and we just got back from that—and it was a very lovely evening out. That’s the nice thing about the hour whose loss I was lamenting on twitter this morning, it pays back later in the day. I’m looking forward to many more pleasant evening strolls through the spring and into the summer months. This is something I am fond of.

The snow came

March 2nd, 2009 Brian View Comments

The snow came last night as forecast. Roughly five inches, I would say. We didn’t lose power, at least not for any extended period of time, but our cable television and internet did go out. I think it got turned back on again sometime around 1 in the afternoon.

The roads into the office in the morning were pretty rough, but traffic was light and I didn’t have too many problems. I think the real concern will be tomorrow morning when the meltoff refreezes tonight and truly gets dangerous. We’ll see though; if things dry enough today maybe it won’t be an issue.

The office was practically a ghost town. A few of us were there and did our thing, but once those required tasks were accomplished it didn’t seem like there was too much need to remain for the whole afternoon so I left at around lunchtime.

I think I might try to do some reading this afternoon, and do a little studying of my programming book.

Blah day

March 1st, 2009 Brian View Comments

So the rain is pouring down. Seems like it has been days. Maybe it has. Reports are for possible snow this evening and overnight. Seems strange that they are calling for 3-5 inches of snow on March 1 when we’ve barely had any previous to now. Oh well, just trying to stay dry and warm. No bike ride today, but what’s new.

Random what’s going on comment

December 31st, 2008 Brian View Comments

Do I ever update this blog anymore? Seems like not very often.

Well, Marcella and I have the rest of the week off. We’ve started things off by trying to clean up our front room. Right now it’s combination office (read: it has a giant desk that hardly ever has anyone seated in front of it), and bike storage, and random chair collection. But we are thinking of moving the furniture around and cleaning it up and hopefully making it more useable, and in turn, more used.

I’d like to end up with a place we can setup to do some arts and crafts things from time to time. Right now if either one of us wants to be visually creative we’ve got to dig everything out of the closet and set it up somewhere, and by the time that is done we’ve usually burnt out on the idea.

So that’s going to be project one for the free time.

Beyond that I want to do some reading. I’ve started another game of chess with a friend in NY. I wouldn’t be surprised if another game doesn’t crop up soon too. Some bike riding should definitely be in order at some point; I’ve really got to get back in the saddle. Plus, I need to study some on my various outside projects like spanish vocabulary. Since level one ended I haven’t even looked at my spanish book, and I need to not let that get too far behind. These things are lost far too quickly. Recently I’ve also begun trying to learn some programming. I got a couple of books on Objective-C and am diligently reading and transcribing code and running practice programs.
